Fully integrated PAC Family ICs and motor control solutions for sensored, sensorless Back-EMF and Field-Oriented-Control (FOC) cut down on system footprint, BOM cost and time-to-market.

DALLAS, TX – March 1, 2016 – Germany based Fein (www.fein.com) and Dallas based Active-Semi, Inc. announced today the launch of Fein's AFSC 1.7 Q SuperCut Oscillating Power Tool based on Active-Semi Power Application Controller® (PAC) motor control IC. Using a powerful brushless DC (BLDC) motor, AFSC 1.7 Q offers a professional-grade high-performance tool delivering 19500 rpm working on an 18V Li-ion battery for automotive and other applications.

"As an over 145-year old innovator in the power tools industry, Fein continues to look for disruptive technologies in motor control," says Ulf Rinckleb, Head of Electronics Development at Fein. "We were impressed with Active-Semi's all-inclusive PAC IC architecture integrating high-voltage gate drivers, configurable AFE, power management and ARM® Cortex® core along with additional peripherals such as PWM engines, timers, serial interfaces and GPIO to enable a high-performance, highly reliable tool design with the smallest footprint. We look forward to leveraging this scalable architecture to more tools as we strive to deliver the best to our customers."

"We are excited at the market release of Fein's latest battery-powered SuperCut Oscillating Power Tool based on Active-Semi 52V PAC5220QS IC," says David Briggs, Vice-President and General Manager at Active-Semi. "We are also pleased that PAC offers the best single-IC motor control solutions available today for the power tools industry enabling both battery and AC powered applications. We are excited to be working with Fein and look forward to supporting their other high-performance tools in the near future."

PAC ICs targeting motor control applications, namely, PAC5220QS (52V), PAC5223QM (70V), PAC5250 (600V), PAC5253 (600V) and Class-B compatible PAC5255 (600V) are now in production, and are available at major distributors world-wide. Also, HYDRA-X evaluation kits, motor control firmware for sensored, sensorless Back-EMF and FOC, motor tuning software are available to jump-start development.
